Photographer's Note

Early morning fog on Vancouver's Stanley Park. This was taken from a viewpoint on a neighbouring mountain, just after sunrise. I took some similar photos on a foggy day before, and then got some different ideas about photographing in the fog, then I had to wait 2 years before I could try out my ideas. You need just the right amount of fog. It has to be thin enought to be able to see the hills and tall buildings breaking through the top of the fog. Then I rented a long lens (300mm) the day before and put it on one of my older, crop format cameras, so it became an equivalent of 450mm. I like the super long telephoto look and the way it compresses the scene, making the trees look like they are floating on the clouds.
