Photographer's Note

I've long known that the Vermillion Lakes were a favorite sunrise destination for photographers. I just never made an effort to go there for sunrise. Sunset? Sure, a couple of times. The last light hitting Rundle from behind can be sublime. But I've never liked shooting into the sun, so sunrise was another story.

Well, this is sunrise at Second Vermillion Lake, and all I can say is that it lived up to its reputation (both in terms of beauty and in terms of how many other photographers were there). We've had unusually warm weather in Alberta recently, which meant that portions of the lake were melted. Made for a lovely reflection. It was above freezing this morning, with no wind, a clear sky, and just enough clouds for color. Who could ask for more?
