Photographer's Note

This is Spirit Island in Jasper National Park. The island is pretty hard to get to, being about 20km down Maligne Lake, with no road access. There is a boat tour that takes you to the island, however, they only stay at the island for 10 minutes before going back. You can also rent a canoe, but it's about 3 hours paddling each way to get there.

Maligne Lake is one of the largest glacier fed lakes in the world, with numerous glaciers around the lake. In the winter the lake is forzen and covered with about 2m of snow. In the summer the water gets all the way up to +4 degrees!

A classic scene here, Alvin. We've even see this angle for. But this one succeeds because everything is so well done. The day is perfect, with just the right types and amount of clouds in the sky. The composition is perfect, 16mm allows just the right grounding on the bottom. The light and exposure is perfectly done (I'm surposed you didn't need a a grad filter here). My only disappointment is that I only get to see 800 pixels.

Very nice picture of such a beautiful landscape.I like the composition of the lake,the trees and the mountains very much.
The only negative thing I can say,is,that the sky looks a bit weird.Maybe you oversharpened it or edited the colors too much.

But well done!

Excellent picture with contrast crisp color. The picture provides peace to eyes. Is this the raw image? A technical briefing would help other to take a beautiful picture like this.

Bonjour Alvin,
on ne se lasse pas de la beauté de cette région du Canada, très riche en lacs et montagnes, la végétation est très colorée.
Le paysage est mis en valeur par un cadrage très efficace et des réglages de l'exposition bien adaptés.

Another very fine image, Alvin. The composition is so well done here. The log provides a good lead in, and the depth of field is so well used here. Did you happen to use the Shadow/highlight filter here? It may have been used a bit strongly, if so. The shadow colors are just a tiny bit strange. But well done photo.

Hi Alvin,
This one seems very similar to your previous upload, but it's interesting to notice how a lower pov affected te rendering of the water color, and here you have a strong foreground, considering the note I hope you did not miss this unique opportunity to enjoy a refreshing bath ;-)

Yet another splendid view of the Canadian Rockies. If I may I will let you know that the colors do not seem very natural on this one, I don't know why. Perhaps it is the sky which tends to turn out as turquoise on my monitor. Nevertheless the scenery and the composition are both A 1

Hello Alvin! This one is calendar worthy, very well done from the composition, to the colors, contrast, and sharpness. Since you have considerable talents my only knitpick is the highlights on the downed tree in the water is pushing being too bright, but this is very, very minor.

I'm a little bit puzzled. I was so sure that I have already seen this image before and that I even wrote a critique for it, but I can't find my name anywhere. Well, maybe there are first signs of Alzheimer or the phenomena of "deja vu". I hope it is latter.
Anyway, the colors, composition, POV are all at its best and I wish that I will be able to get to BC pretty soon. Maybe next year or the following.

Well Alvin, you can alway get me desiring beeing there with you. Lovely sky, lovely foreground, amazing colours and the mountains aiming the island is like the cherry on top of the cake.
It counts for the adventure as for the fantastic image.
Honestly I've seen some pictures of this place, but this is one of the best...professional work here.
You take the photos I wish I couls take...congratulations...
