Photographer's Note

Here is the second of the three figures in this whimsical sculpture -- a dreadlocked strings player.

Sometimes I post fotos here to share work I think is great; other times, I post fotos as exercises and studies, hoping to learn from the process and from your feedback. I did not have good original files for the Caracoles Músicos, but I post these to complete the series of Statues along the Malecón, and (perhaps more importantly) as exercises in working with what I have.

Given the noise in the images, monochrome is an obvious alternative (although it reduced but did not eliminate the noise!). If you look at yesterday's post, you'll see that I presented the sculpture as light and the background as dark. Given the sculptor's intention for this figure, I attempted to reverse that scheme for this foto -- to present the figure as dark against a light background. The background in both fotos, of course, is the same stand of trees, and the lighting is the same, although it seemed much harder to work with in this image.

Your feedback is solicited on these choice and my presentation.
