Touch the light!, a photo from Iraklion, Crete

Photographer's Note

Photo taken in the dungeons of the Castle that is located right at the entrance of the old Venetian port of Iraklion ( SEE HERE ). The castle is known with its turkish name "Kule". It was constructed between 1523 and 1540 (during the Venetian occupation of Crete( when it took the form that you'll see if you visit it. There was an older castle in the same position that collapsed by an earthquake in 1303.

The castle was on of the shooting locations for the biography film "El Greco", directed by Yiannis Smaragdis. El Greco (real name "Dominikos Theotokopoulos") was born in Fodele, a small village, about 35 km west of Iraklion.

minimal.not much elements created from light give an interesting composition and well compose.every elements relate each other in circle-the girl,rectangle,verticle line and spot light on floor.your frame be part of photo and support photo very well:)

Aquí nos enseñas una gran destreza
fotográfica al saber bien utilizar el manejo
de la luz y los contrastes. El blanco y negro
es mas que perfecto en este caso, y el
resultado es fantástico!

I like this, and think you may try more photos like this. The black is not really black, as there are subtle colour variations, and faint yet discernable detail. The light on the cobblestones, the portal, and the person is brilliant.

as they say, It's the darkness that gives the light meaning, and this is truly an Renaissance way of describing an object with an minimal of light to shape the POv and a lot of darkness to hide what not inportant.

I don't want to sound crazy but this lady looks like me quite a lot especially with her knee breeches... But I was very far away from Crete that day, in Istanbul working in the laboratory :)
Light plays like a experienced artist, dances around lady, or just the opposite, lady dances around light... Much more like they are dancing with each other, around each other, they are playing a superb scene here.

Amazing theatral, almost surreal presentation of the place, the light source, and the figure's devotional body language. The black here, is perfect.

Σαν σκηνή απο αρχαία τραγωδία η φωτογραφία σου Ηρακλή, δίνει την αίσθηση του άπιαστου όνειρου.
Εξαιρετική η διαχείριση του ελάχιστου φωτισμού, επικέντρωσε την προσοχή στην γυναίκα δίνοντας την απαιτούμενη ένταση στην σύνθεση σου.
Το ασπρόμαυρο βέβαια ήταν μονόδρομος στην προκειμένη περίπτωση.
