Photographer's Note
CaixaForum
A spectacular transformation
The only material of the old power station that we could use was the classified brick shell. In order to conceive and insert the new architectural components of the CaixaForum Project, we began with a surgical operation, separating and removing the base and the parts of the building no longer needed. This opened a completely novel and spectacular perspective that simultaneously solved a number of problems posed by the site.
The removal of the base of the building left a covered plaza under the brick shell, which now appears to float above the street level. This sheltered space under the CaixaForum offers its shade to visitors who want to spend time or meet outside and is at the same time the entrance to the Forum itself. Problems such as the narrowness of the surrounding streets, the placement of the main entrance, and the architectural identity of this contemporary art institution could be addressed and solved in a single urbanistic and sculptural gesture.

Hello Maria! So you were actually working on the building but also sneaking through the curtain. What an oportunity and you took it and gave us this intimate view. Big discussions going on I suppose, about the building maybe, or other stuff, who knows. Great idea, Maria, and I am in the mood to hide a little bit before I go home and let the people take over and I look how it rains, and it does rain, I guess we are in for a little flood. Take care, have a good weekend, Barbara.

Hi Maria,
A superb framing idea again...I should be used to it by now but I'm not! The execution is also faultless. Congrats!
Cheers,
Philippe

Hola Maria,
Muy bien vista, una imagen muy original. Me gusta la elección del blanco y negro, en este caso creo que evita distracciones.

Hola Maria,
the contrast between the small focused area with human life and the big blurred one is excellent.
Good one !

Lovely Maria, and very creative.
Usually we see a completely different use of shallow DOF,
so it always feels like a breeze to see something like
THIS!
Beautiful window and it's grain, very strong.
Superb!

Fantastic photo, Maria.
I love how you boldly left the couple only into that smaller space in your frame, lots of photographers would have pretty much straightforwardly tried to fill up the frame with the characters, -providing they at least had the idea of framing them into the grid hole-.
This is the textbook example that closer is not necessarily better. the breathy framing allows to include the tree sihouette which is also giving a downwards reading direction to your picture.

Hi Maria,
most informative note, but the charm of the photo is what makes is so perfect for me. I prefer a slight mysticism...alternative interpretation...a shadowed world and and opening for the couple. That personal creative touch that takes the photo to intimate level. It is absolutely fantastic, with great artistic touch of someone, who knows the laws of composition.
My best,
Jeri
