I would like to respond to the critque pointing out that the buildings seem to be modernized. The issue is that this shot is not actually of the Old City of Jerusalem, but is in fact Abu Tor, which sits on the hillside below the southern wall and just beside the original City of David. It is completely outside the Old City walls. This shot seems to be from a section of the well known Promenade, shot across Silwan valley, perhaps and fairly close to the Hebron Road area. This area is an Arab neighborhood and extends east for about 2 kilometers before the separation wall which is actually across the top hill and cut off from this lower point of view looking up. This is why you are puzzled by the more modern buildings not in keeping with the 3,000 + year old buildings of the actual Old City. I hope this explains the confusion, and also points out why it is important to be accurate in location descriptions. Now this all said, it is a nice shot and I noticed it (I am new here) because I spend a great deal of time shooting in Jerusalem and occasionally painting scenes and this is a view I have indeed painted plein air.
