Photographer's Note

A cold winters day - a chance encounter on a small country lane......

A couple miles from where I live I can lose myself in the delights of Charnwood Forest - an ancient woodland which now marks the eastern edge of the New National Forest. The Great Central Railway runs through the eastern part of the old forest and crosses a large reservoir (Swithland Reservoir) not far from where i took this image.

I'm not a train buff but someone else at this location told me this was a 'special' - an engine imported for a while for its possibility to attract visitors from far and wide. I love the impact a steam train makes on an environment (not environmentally though) in the sense of sound, smell, visually - it's presence and raw power......and I like those after moments......the way its presence lingers and its passing somehow changes everything.
