Photographer's Note

I also considered "The Last Man Standing..." for the title and " not a man" for the first line in the note but decided against it.

It was such a sad sight when I noticed this pack of cigarettes forgotten on a bench outside the main entrance of a hospital. At that time there was no one around as if the whole human race had vanished or perhaps had fallen victim to some deadly global scale weapon.

There are several "No Smoking" signs posted around that area but almost always there's some poor addict around sucking deeply into their lungs the deadly gases and aerosols. Most of them usually stay away from those signs but occasionally some can be spotted standing proudly in front of one of those signs. A few times I was actually tempted to pull out my camera and ask them nicely for their permission to capture that shameful arrogance in a photo, but I didn't dare. They were standing out there poisoning everyone trying to enter or exiting the hospital. Well... not really everyone, but you get the idea.

Note: In the US, similarly to many of the other western countries, smoking is not allowed in public buildings. Consequently the addicts are being seen gathered outside the various entrances into those buildings. I'm going to follow this up, hopefully tomorrow, with another posting on the same issue.
