Photographer's Note

This year Columbus Day, October 9th, was a perfectly clear and very warm day in Hartford. I went for a walk and of course had my camera with me. Early to mid afternoon, as I was waiting for a bus to go to a different town, I shot this photo of the Traveler's Tower across the street.

Traveler's Tower is not only an essential component of downtown Hartford skyline but itís one of the most recognizable buildings in the state of Connecticut. Hartford is known as the insurance capital of the world and the Travelerís Tower is one of its insurance industry signature buildings. It was built in 1919 in a neo-classical style by architect Donn Barber. It is located about 500 feet above sea level and it stands 600 feet tall. Travelerís Tower was built as the tallest building in New England. Its observation deck offers a panoramic view of the city of Hartford, the Connecticut River and the surrounding countryside.
