Photographer's Note

Completed in 1791, Portland Head Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Maine and one of the most photographed in the country. This view is from a cruise that passed the lighthouse early in the AM.

The original tower measured 72' from base to lantern deck and was lit with 16 whale oil lamps. By 1865, the tower was raised 20' and a Fresnel lens was installed.
