early birds, a photo from New Jersey, Northeast

Photographer's Note

The Pacific coast gets a lot of attention for its sunsets, but we early birds on the Atlantic side receive our share of glory in the solitude of morning. I arrived at the beach just as the sun was appearing over the horizon with not a cloud in the sky. While I worked on capturing the view, this little girl was passing by on a beachcombing mission with her father and enjoying the treasure-hunter’s advantage of low-tide. Judging by the weight of her bag she had gathered a fair amount of loot already when I came along shortly before 6am.

I did very little post processing other than just a little brightening and sharpening.

I grew up in a place where I saw sun rises on the ocean (and sunsets too). This brings a happy mempry back. The color is great with warmth but alslo the freshness of a new day. The sun reflection on the water is stunning.

Ahh the east coast of the USA!! Early morning sights like this would make anyones day cheery. Very nice setting with the girl and the reflection in the water is a real treat. I can see how the humidity on the east can really intensify the colors of the sunrise tones. Nice work Lisa...and thanks for sharing...

Hi Lisa,
This is a very pleasant scenery, with a striking atmosphere..!
You capture the moment well with the bird and the girl, where she is in a fine position and posture... Otherwise I also appreciate the diagonal surf in your composition!
A very moody situation very well captured!

Nice shot Lisa,

The little girl and the bird are exactly what this shot needed to add a human element. Great exposure and nice reflections, but I think it would benefit from a slight clockwise rotation to fix the horizon. other then that it looks great!

Very nice, Lisa! Having the little girl there was fortuitous, indeed. But what really provides the icing on the cake here is that sea gull. Nice reflection, too!

Beautiful colours, very rich, and a lovely reflection. The bird looks great where it is, and the gentle waves make nice lines in the lower half. There is a very slight tilt on the horizon, but not enought to detract from the very appealing view. There is good definition on the girl in the still gloomy light. A very nice photo, Lisa.

I could almost smell the salty sea air. The girl adds a stamp of time and place and era. I like the composition as the layer take the eye into the distant sun rise.

What a wonderful morning !!
The golden " path " from the beach to the horizon is awesome !
I think it would be so difficult to picture the little girl due to the backlighting , but you have mastered it perfectly . The bird in the sky was in the right place at the right time :o)
Very impressive photo indeed !

Hello Lisa.
I really like the diagonal lines of the waves coing in and the beach. They are so straight, but add a nice contrast to the even horizon. Beautiful colors and the addition of the young girl and bird breathes life into the photo.

The kind of image that I love so much...and I´ve made so many times...
