Photographer's Note
Every year between November and January a special "Winter Village" is set up in Bryant Park. It usually includes a large, outdoor holiday market, including numerous food vendors, a pop-up lodge and restaurant, an ice-skating rink, and a Christmas tree.
This year, of course, things are a bit different. There is no lodge, no food vendors, and a very limited number of outdoor shops. The ice-skating rink, though is mostly the same. The only difference is the limited number of skaters that can be on the ice at the same time. Normally the ice would be packed with people skating so close that they almost bump into one another.
Even though the Winter Village is toned down this year, I still enjoyed the atmosphere. You can skate while being surrounded by some impressive skyscrapers. The blue-green building is the Salesforce Tower. It was completed in 1974, has 41 floors, and I've always liked its colorful, glass facade. :-)
In the WS is another view.
Stay safe everyone!

Hello Brenda,
The upper part of the photo looks like summertime. Then we got the autumn tones of the foliage in the central part and at the bottom the ice-skating rink of course reminds us it's winter.
You really enjoyed beautiful weather that day.
The Salesforce Tower adds another and special colour while it also reflects beautifully several other high buildings.
The skaters wear the recommended face masks. Recently we heard bad news about the number of infections in the US after the feast of Thanksgiving Day. Here with us, the same problem is feared for after the Christmas period ...
I sincerely hope you are doing well.
The picture in the WS shows the same brightness and also has excellent sharpness and an attractive composition.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Brenda
A good late Autumn scene with upper branches of the yellow leaved trees nicely catching some sunlight. Well managed perspective and good use of a fast shutter speed so the skaters aren't motion blurred. Tfs!

Hello Brenda,
Seeing most people very lightly dressed I guess it must have been quite a warm day, not at all as I imagine November. The warm tones of the upper part of the photo, and the blue sky, correspond well with my imagined mild temperature. It's a very nice view of the people skating with a lot of space between them and the tall buildings in the background. There are some fine reflections on the Salesforce Tower. I like the differently shaped WS too, with the persons in the foreground watching the skaters.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Brenda, a well balanced composition from New York.
I am sure that the skaters are enjoying having more space instead of the usual jostling as in previous years.
The Salesforce Tower is a lovely colour and reflects some of the surrounding buildings beautifully.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hi Brenda,an attempt to remain normal even if the differences are evident, few people, no markets and refreshments ... but anyway it is necessary to make this sacrifice and respect the rules, vaccines are coming and it would be stupid to get sick right now. Congratulations for the 2 photos, I really like the perspective in the WS. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Brenda,
A good thing that despite everything the Winter Village and the skating rink has still been set up. A great picture of the skaters in the foreground and the view of the buildings in the bright and warm sunlight in the background is simply fantastic! Also the reflections in the large glass façade at right are gorgeous.

Hello Brenda, I thought that the main ice-rink is in Rockefeller Center, under Prometheus. You had a fantastic late autumn day - it is so sunny and judging from the dresses - also war. All looks fantastic when seen in a large format. The girl in the middle has something strange instead of a mask. Delightful both pictures.

Dear Brenda,
Now, this famous ice-skate ring looks much different than I 'remembered' based on the photos I saw on the postcards. Anyhow, the place looks like a good opportunity for these people to be free from COVID!
Best Wishes,
Gy.
PS: Thank you for your wishes under another photo of mine!

Hello Brenda,
This must have been a great disappointment to the people of N.Y! I know that most of the Christmas Markets and the food markets have been cancelled in the U.K., which have become so much a part of the build up to Christmas!
I wonder, Brenda, how do they operate this? Are customers given a number, like when you go out with a boat, and when that number is called, the participants have to leave and new ones take their place?
When I went to our local card shop, this week, I had to queue outside, as only four people were allowed in at any time!
This is a lovely photograph, under a beautiful, ambient light. The tall buildings with many windows, surrounding the ice rink, seem like an audience, in a rising seating area, enjoying what is happening below.
It would seem that skaters are encouraged to skate in one direction, so there will be no close collisions!
Thank you for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Hi Brenda,
Is this the one that has been on many movies? Beautiful shot on afternoon light. I guess it can be fairly warm there on some days even in November. Yes, I can imagine how crowded it has been other years.

Hi Brenda,
great reportage from the ice rink. Indeed it feels at first sight as if it was not very popular. But the face masks say it all..Nice spot with skyscrapers around but also with a layer of trees surrounding the square. The workshop photo has the trees better lit with autumnal colors well pronounced.
Beautiful photos,

Hello Brenda,
This is the New York I love , seeing people enjoying and having fun despite the winter village is toned down.
But hey! at least you've the amazing skyscrapers, high up in the beautiful blue sky with the atmospheric glow of sunlight , shining softly onto the trees top and a warm reflected lights through the glass facade of the New York skyline, no matter what the weather be like.
I also see some nice words around the ice-skating rink....like 'magic hour', 'lace up' to 'peace and victory' sum-up the pure spirit of this festive period.
Well, I hope that they're taking extra precautions while having fun skating otherwise it would be like - skating on thin ice :-)
Thanks for sharing this 'winter wonder( city )'.

Hi Brenda
A wonderful urban scene captured - most appropriate at the moment. Well, they are keeping a certain safe distance from each other! Absolutely truth.. We only have a global Pandemic of fear....
Best regards
