Photographer's Note
Back in “Little Ukraine”, I revisited the restaurant that I showed in a previous post, and also stopped by other cultural sites in the area. My previous photo was taken nine years ago, but things haven’t changed too much.
Here again is “Veselka”, a Ukrainian eatery that has been around since 1954. My previous view was taken around the corner where there’s a mural, but this is the front of the restaurant. You can see all the old tenements reflected in the windows.
Other sites in the neighborhood include: St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, The Ukrainian Museum, the Shevchenko Scientific Society, and the Ukrainian Cultural Center.
In the WS are two of those spots.
May there be peace in Ukraine in the very near future…

Hello Brenda,
These photos give us very different views from the Ukrainian circles in New York, but I like them all. The main photo has the slightly chaotic big city atmosphere that I enjoy: Lots of details, signs, colors and reflections, and fortunately also one person just stepping out through the door. The church is very beautiful and I like what is shown of the architecture of the quite modern looking museum. There is obviously a large and prosperous Ukrainian population in New York to afford such fine buildings.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Brenda,a really nice post to dedicate to Ukraine and its difficult moment. I see that there is absolutely everything in the neighborhood, the Orthodox church is truly magnificent and there is also a museum. As for the restaurant, I'm not so curious to taste the traditional cuisine but this place that has resisted for 60 years obviously offers something good. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Brenda,
Fantastic picture. Of course, it is interesting to see something Ukrainian in NYC. I like the reflections and the sign Slava Ucrayini. I looked in Google Maps, and it looks different there, with the tables outside. Veselka means rainbow. I looked at what they serve there. So, they have nalisniki - which means crepes, like Polish naleśniki, of course, borshch (I had today :)), and pierogi - dumplings. Have you ever tasted something there? Try borshch. Nice also views of the church and the museum.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Brenda,
A great photo of the restaurant. The reflections in the windows are really amazing. Their colours are beautiful and they look so clear. The Ukrainian flag is still clearly visible as well.

Hello Brenda,
I didn't know there was a 'Little Ukraine' in NYC.
On the other hand, I only recently learned that a number of Ukrainians have also come to live in Belgium. They are only now making the news with their aid campaigns and bringing Ukrainian refugees into their homes.
Belgium has registered nearly 25,000 Ukrainians since the beginning of the Russian invasion. But emergency villages are being set up because it is believed that between 100,000 and 200,000 refugees will come from Ukraine.
Your main photo is very colourful and shows beautiful reflections. It is also very sharp and clear. Too bad you had to take it because of the sad news about the war.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Brenda,
Excellent addition to the Ukrainian theme. The flag certainly catches attention. Colourful reflections of city buildings look good too.

Hello Brenda,
Without your photographs, we would not have been aware of the strength of the Ukrainian community in N.Y.
WE all feel shocked and helpless by what is happening to the proud Ukrainian Nation but the people living here must be totally devastated!
I love the reflections of the tenements in the shop window. It's almost like seeing this are on a huge TV screen!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Brenda,
Great picture with the Ukrainian flag being a part of the very colorful composition. Fantastic street scene with such vibrant reflection. Nice that you were able to present something very traditional characteristic for the Ukrainian part of town in NYC.
Great contribution.
I keep praying for Ukraine,
M
