Photographer's Note

This is the first of a series of photographs taken during Scottsdales Fall 2018 Canal Convergence and is of "ARIZONA!"

Canal Convergence was 10 consecutive days of wonder at Scottsdale Public Artís annual confluence of water + art + light with large-scale, interactive artworks; hands-on activities and workshops; artist talks; live music; and dance performances. All art installations were on display each day of the event.

"ARIZONA!" is a hand-crocheted lace ribbon measuring 8 feet wide and more than 600 feet long. It will elegantly meander over and around the Arizona Canal throughout Canal Convergence and remain installed until spring 2019. During the spring 2018 Canal Convergence event, Choi+Shine Architects visited the Scottsdale Waterfront to explain their project and engage the public in participating. A number of hand-crocheted designs were dispersed to more than 100 experienced crochet volunteers in Arizona and beyond. These volunteers worked together through meet-ups in person and online, closely following the design and patterns created by Choi+Shine.

Choi + Shine Architects is an internationally awarded design studio, established by Jin Choi and Thomas Shine. Their works have appeared in museums, galleries, and light festivals worldwide, including i Light Marina Bay in Singapore and the Islamic Arts Festival in Sarjah, United Arab Emirates.
