Nice capture, I like how the bridge stands out but still disappears inside the fog, and the skyscrapers peeking out in the distance. The horizon seems to be a bit tilted.

Wow! I have never seen anything like this before. A totally new view of the famous bridge for me.
Very dramatic and beautiful. I like your composition and the way we can see the clear San Fransisco skyline above the fog.
I really hope I get to see San Fransisco some day. I have heard from many people it is the best and most beautiful and nice city in the US.

The sea of fog - or even maybe the ocean of fog! I've seen such a thing only high in the mountains with low clouds - never with the fog so dense! I wonder if it happens often...

If that's what you call shrouded in mist Curtis, I'd hate to see a foggy day!.
As for the shot I've never seen anything like it before, the mist is so overpowering and all enveloping with the tantalizing glimpse of the city rising into the clear sky.
And the way the bridge thrusts out of the mist and the cable disappears is awesome.

Nice seeing you again, Curtis. I love the way you captured this, with the bridge engulfed in the dense clouds, and the Transamerica Pyramid and the other downtown highrises just about peeking out above. The bridge pillar on the left also makes a nice framing device. Quite a good texture you found in the fog. I've been to SF twice (fall of 1996 and summer of 2001) and always got a clear view of the bridge, can you believe my luck? It comes in high on my list of favorite cities in the U.S., only topped by this one (adding a link not to instantly give the secret away :o). Well done.

Hi Curtis, nice to see you around again. I've seen some of your earlier fog-blanket shots and they are really just preludes to this great shot. The sense of being immensed in this strange substance comes across from the image so well that I can almost feel it, especially with eyes closed (after studying the photo of course).
The tall buildings rising above the fog in the background are a good detail and they are important for the balance in the composition acting as counterweight to the bridge. Funny how these small dots can balance the mass of the bridge.
The image _do_ tilt a little bit to the right. I guess that you pointed the camera slightly downwards and that would have introduced some perspective distortion with the verticals pointing inwards. Aligning the pillar to vertical have then tilted the horizon. The perspective correction tool in Photoshop could be applied for a finishing touch here.
Still, the impact of the photo alone makes it worth a dark green one.

Great work Curtis - I didn't know San Francisco was this foggy, even in the middle of Summer? The lines of the bridge are so lovely appearing out of the fog and the skyline floating in the distance is fascinating. Hope you enjoyed your days off.

An amazing shot, Curtis. The thick white blanket of fog is just incredible, especially when compared to the clear landscape in the distant background. Very well seen and framed.

Great, simply great, Curtis! Now, I'll think of you of the perfect alter ego of Micheangelo's representation of God on the ceiling of the Sixtine chapel, reaching from the top of the mountain and creating a bright red bridge out of the fog...

I'm picturing myself diving in the midst of this huge, soft "cloud" of fog. Never seen San Francisco bridge like this. As all the others have already said : great photo!

I saw something extremely similar to this on my way into Toronto this morning... the only difference is that it was sunny as hell, -15 Celsius and the lake was frozen!! :) go figure. thanks for this pic, great viewpoint you captured here.. i especially love the city far away beyond the clouds and fog.

The sort of shot that you dream of taking. I bet if I were to visit SF on a holiday it would be bright and clear and no fog. Extremely atmospheric picture.

This is truely spectacular,partially shows the bridge and have a clear background, I like this photo a lot!

I've heard that these kinds of fog (called Advection fog) is quite often occurs on the bridge, because of that they choose the bridge's color to Orange, which it can improves the visibility in the fog. Is that true?

this is such an amazing picture!! [email protected] even thou there is no visible horizon line , the picture is straight and in balance, the colors and the way you captured the fog is astonishing (sorry for my english, ).

the composition, that you only showed a little bit of water, then the bridge, the fog (that fog is so thick it actually looks like if they were clouds). and you can see the city "skyline". and then fading in the distance the mountains and sky,

i want to take pictures like you when i grow up

This is a great shot with a quintessential San Francisco feel and good conveyance of what it's like to be standing there watching the fog roll in and out of the bay. This is a uniquely SanFran shot.

Now is the moment to write a comment on this one, I will lift it to the hundred points;-) Congratulations, Curtis, the picture is really worth it. You post it while I was in Moscow, I think, after a period of not being active.
For a while I did not even realize that I never wrote a comment on this one, sometimes my memory really plays dirty tricks with me. It’s an extraordinary scenery with the bright color of the bridge in the light, the white fog, some parts of the city rising above the heavy fog, the cars on the bridge, it’s all beautiful! It’s very nice to see a little bit of the water at the bottom of the picture.

I love this scenery which also includes San Francisco skyline in the background. When I go to the USA, San Francisco is first on my check list.
