Photographer's Note

The Gault gasoline engine was built in 1915. It is a 2 1/2 horsepower machine. The engine has an unusual speed control in that the engine stops the spark when the engine is running too fast and the spark is operated when the engine slows down. The engine uses a very primitive form of speed/load control. Modern engines use a governor that adjusts the fuel intake. The engine was exhibited at the Riverside Car Show.
