Friant Windmill, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

This shot was taken just outside of Friant, which is just north of Fresno. We don't get a lot of rain outside of December and January, nor do we often have photogenic clouds or clean blue skies.

Those things aside, Fresno isn't a bad place to live. It is much more agricultural than the rest of California, so you get a strange mix of Mid-Western and Californian ideologies and trends. And the odd windmill.

Hello Brian,

This is one stunning composition which I can singled out a few elements that I like. The light is brilliant casting shadow in some area providing depth to this composition. The undulating horizon is just superb against those cloudy sky and you have organized the foreground very well. The windmill and the fence are just perfectly placed in this whole perspective.

Hi Brian, very nicely composed scene of this Fresno country side. The windmill works well to establish the height of your frame and provide some framing on the left for the rest of the shot. The fence provides another. The hills rolling up to that sky are good, and with excellent colour seen in both.
