Photographer's Note

I can't count the number of times I've posted a picture of the lush mountain vegetation of northern Utah on TE, only to have someone express their surprise that Utah has anything other than desert. I guess since I spent more of my childhood living in northern Utah than anywhere else, I forget that most people are only familiar with the deserts of southern Utah.

It's funny, though, because anyone who's ever been to Arches has seen the beautiful La Sal Mountains towering in the distance, with their snow-capped peaks. They're not an anomaly. This picture captures both of Utah's major ecosystems: montane/alpine and desert.
