Photographer's Note
Delicate Arch in Arches National Park at sunset after a cloudy day.
After an uphill walk to a rim from which you can have a nice view at this amazing product of erosion, we found lots of other people waiting for sunset. However, many clouds were blocking the sun and a number of people already gave up the hope for a nice sunset and left the spot.
We decided to stay and enjoy the view - with or without sun - and our patience was rewarded with a "Just In Time" sunset with a beautiful background of rainclouds and even a miniature rainbow. The sun shouldn't have broken through the clouds a bit later, otherwise no sunlight would have shone on the arch (see the shadows already at the base of the arch).

Merci d'avoir patienté pour nous offrir cette merveille de la nature.
Le pont naturel est parfaitement éclairé par le soleil couchant. Sur l'arrière plan le ciel orageux et l'arc en ciel agrémente le paysage.
Thanks for having had patience to offer this wonder of nature to us. The natural bridge is lit perfectly by the shining sun. On the background the stormy sky and the rainbow decorate well the landscape.

It's hard to imagine the number of years it must have taken for this arch to be created.. Beautiful colours with the sunlit red against a fairly brooding sky, even the bird seems to like it ;-)

Sorry I never comment this one (only added it to the theme) it’s a fantastic peace of "natures art" you captured - the light perfect to show the details of rock surface. The background with the extra bow perfect - Can't help wandering how many point you would have got if the rainbow has been perfect also ;-) - The shadow no problem – congratulation with the shot.

Hey Michael, I'll have to post one of my shots of this magnificent feature! My kids did not want to hike so far, so we saw it from below on our last trip. Your patience paid off here! The location of shadow is just perfect. I like how the La Sal mountains are blurry and purple. Nature cooperated even more with that delightful rain shower on the right! What a fun place to be!

Landscape of erosion of dream under a light of the splendid evening. One can be only admiring in front of such a spectacle. It is a wonder! There is even a rainbow in sky which is formed behind plane. All my congratulations! I cannot prevent myself from putting this photograph in my favourites.

Hi Mike, you are very lucky to see it in such dramatic weather. The stormy cloud and the rainbow around sunset would be rare to see. The color is fantastic too. Really enjoy it!

Magnifique lumière et tons chauds. Mais le petit plus, c'est l'arc-en-ciel dans le fond.
Beautiful light and warm colors. But what does the difference is the rainbow in the backgroung. Bravo

Lovely colors and light - I only wish there was less of a shadow in the foreground
