Photographer's Note

If you want to photograph this location in Zion National park its located inside the park on highway 9 just outside of Springdale. It is perhaps one of the most photographed locations in Zion because of its access and scenic setting.
The park attracts tourists from all over the world because of its natural beauty, but the National Park service has done their part by making you listen to Zion Park information on the Park buses which are the only means of travel in parts of the park.

If you enter Zion from the east on Highway 9 you have to pass through this tunnel. It was completed in 1930 and at that time was the longest tunnel in the USA. The tunnel is only 13 feet high and because of its archway design, the rule for RV's and large buses is to pass through on the center line creating the need for Park flag personal on both ends.

An interesting shot of the Mt Carmel face can be seen here and is the only source of light inside this tunnel.
