Photographer's Note

Castle Geyser erupts about every 12 hours, give or take 2-3 hours, so we considered ourselves very lucky to have witnessed this great spectacle of nature by being in the right place at the right time.

Personal observation: Everywhere you go in Yellowstone you see signs and warnings that say don't touch the hot water, stay on the trail, and all sorts of other signs warning of eminent danger. However, the boardwalk around Casltle Geyser is so close to the geyser itself that when it erupts it showers people with water and steam every time with no apparent bad consequences. Look at the people along the ridge in this photo. They are all on the boardwalk and most of them got wet during this eruption. I find that kind of odd and I find a little bit of humor in it as well.
