Watchman Sunset, a photo from Utah, West

Photographer's Note

On our way to Colorado, we stopped and got some food in St. George for nice little sunset picnic in Zion National Park. We got to park just as the sun was setting over with the remained of the light shining through the haze on Watchman.

The river leads my eye right into the picture, past the trees and shrubs, and on to the mountains in the background,which are lit by the setting sun.

The light in this shot is stunning; it has illuminated the cliff tops, as the sky begins to turn golden.
I like how you have used the snaking river, rippling over stones, as a very effective guide from the f/g towards the aforementioned cliffs.

Ciao Oh Naughty One

Jeez that diffused light through the haze is magical. I would have stuffed it completely and over-exposed on the right of the frame for sure. The colours are beautifully rich and I can't take my eyes off how the light has turned that mountain face into a wall of gold. Simply stunning and an immaculate post processing.

charming view from Zion National Park. With sunset light it looks so differently than in bright sunny day. marvelous composition wuth the curve of the river giving depth, amazing view of the rocks kissed by the late sun.

Hello Way, wonderful point of view that allows us to peer down the river and up to the peaks of Zion. This image really exemplifies what the park is about. Those high mountains and the red rocks along with the green tree wilderness.

a dimaond in your portfolio.The last rays of the sun as falling on the top of the Mt. making it to look 'gold'.The small creek penatrates this section of Zion park lead-in the eye on the backdrop haze atmosphere,making the scenery even more effective.Well done.

That subtle sunset is well worth waiting, but what impresses me about this image is that there is just the right amount of exposure and shade throughout the composition. It looks a lot better than the usual silhouette type of image in that getting a foreground is difficult and it works best here and the light of the setting sun works to good advantage overall. There's some good texture in the rock formation catching the attention and green foliage add lot of life too while the stream stretches the depth so smoothly. It's tranquility personified and pleasure to view, Congrats

Even more so than the beauty of the natural landscape, the atmosphere you've captured and rendered from this shot steals the show for me. I can vividly imagine standing in that spot, listening to the gentle sounds of the river and soaking up the days last light. This is remarkably balanced in both composition and exposure. Hello Way,
The river curves slowly into the direction of the orange sunlit mountain range.
The green of the trees and the vegetation contrasts well with the reddish rocks.

Hello Way - I'm a bit behind with my critiques so forgive me for my late response to this shot. What a place for a picnic! A classic composition with such superb light across the rocky peaks. I really like the 'brightness' of the two tress on either side of the river as they give definition to what could easily be a jumble of competing and confusing detail. Nicely done! looking at the delicate processing on light and colors, i remembered the lesson on layers henk jacobs (oochappan) had given to me on his laptop, good old days. beautiful wilderness and immaculate presentation of it. bravo!

Hi Way,
another breath taking view. I like how well you have balanced the exposition here with the foreground in shade and yet we can admire all the details. The last rays of light subtly touch the characteristic red rock mountains of Zion. he river makes a very strong point of the composition enhancing well the interest.
Zion is one of my favourite parks and I would love to get back there again. I don't remember this particular spot, I have to see my own archives...
