Photographer's Note
Just six months ago we flew from Washington to Dallas Texas on an Airbus A330. Then we boarded an Airbus A380 and flew to Sydney, Australia. The Airbus A380 is the largest commercial airplane made. It can carry 500 passengers. We flew non-stop 17 hours, the longest single flight on the globe. But it all started here in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in December 1903, with the Wright brothers making glider flights (a small glider without an engine can be seen in the background). Then they made a series of powered flights with the airplane seen in the foreground. In these earliest models, they were emulating birds, getting "lift" by flexing the wing and cupping the air. By the late 20s and 30s, after aeronautical engineering was born, taking advantage of Bernoulli's Principle made more sense. The cross sections of wings are shaped with the upper surface displacing more air than the lower surface. Since air has to travel faster on the top there is less pressure on the top surface than on the bottom. That is where lift comes from.
It is astonishing how quickly aviation technology developed during the 20th century. The first heavier than air machines were nothing more than powered kites. In the background on the left is a mound crowned with a Monument to the Wright Brothers. It was there that the two brothers learned to glide. The white marble tower on the mound is barely visible against the bright sky. Then with the powered Wright Flyer (seen here), they flew over the flat plain on the right, where successive flights are identified with marble markers #1, #2, #3, also barely visible.
By 1969, our species had made it to the Moon, where astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buz Aldrin actually walked on the moon, 386,000 km (240,000 miles) from the earth.
We have become so accustomed to air travel that we take flying for granted. Again, it all started here when two bicycle repairmen, Wilbur and Orville Wright, took to the air. A very good book about the two brothers and the birth of aviation was written recently by the American author David McCullough.
Finally, although I used my iPhone 6 Plus, I shot a panoramic image. The original photo is over 8 MB.

Hi dear Bulent
Ya I remeber that I leraned about Wright Brothers at the time of elementaly school. Yes I agree with your opinion, the speed of technology develop is astonishing at all, Nice horizontal cropping is thejust fit.
All the best and have a good day! Takero

An astonishing subject, Bulent, and every time I see a plane lift-off the ground I can't imagine its no miracle. Basically, planes have the same aerodynamic features as the Wright brothers so marvelously employed more than 100 years ago, only technology had made an advanced paces in time.
Marvelous Iphone picture indoor's, light and colors with good clear view.
My best regards,

Hello Bülent,
Watching this photo at its largest size I can see the white marble tower quite well. But in any case this is an interesting photo accompanied by a good note that reminds us of the astonishing development of aviation. I wonder if even the Wright brothers had the remotest idea what their experiments would lead to.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Bulent,
Indeed, the Wright brothers could have had no idea how aviation would progress in the relatively short time since they got their flying machine off the ground. Good capture of this pioneer aircraft that seems so curious to our eyes.

Dear Bulent,
In hundred year is the world totally changed, it most during the WAR II for heavy bomber planes and quick fighters.
The German industry during 1933 - 1945, has much changed in the aviation. The jets were invented by Werner von Braun, 1933 Messersmit !
Back to your nice picture of the Wright Brothers.
The clarity is outstanding, and the colours brightly and attractive.
Nice composition and good presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Kindest regards,
John.

Hi Bulent,
Visiting that place would be one dream to come true for me. Big size image shows lots of details of this early aircraft. Thanks for the informative note. Interesting to combine the longest commercial flight at the time being with very short of Wright brothers.

Hello Bulent,
nice the view as the presentation of this earliest model we see on the foreground making glider flights about 110 years ago.The light and the colour management enhance even more the simplicity as the details of it to are captured superb.

Hello Bülent,
They would have required a certain amount of bravado to fly those flimsy looking contraptions so the kudos are well deserved. Good sharpness and I like the wide angled panoramic crop. Tfs!

Hello Bulent
Reading your note and looking at your picture you realize how the world has changed in a relative short time. Looking at a shorter run at f.e. the development of the digital world it seems even more dazzling. I can remember the introduction of the first home computer like a happening of yesterday. And now our next door star maybe has a planet where live could be possible.
Life is too short to follow all these impressive evolutions.

Hello Bulent,
I obviously missed this whilst I was on holiday!
It is a fascinating subject and I am amazed at the courage and ingenuity of those very first aeronautical engineers! They must have had incredible 'faith' in their subjects to have left the ground and ventured so high!
THis is a fine interior shot, even better on the Beta site, with excellent clarity, textural details and a good sense of scale.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
