Photographer's Note

This tree near my old home always made me give a second look. This tree must have provided shade to the country's first inhabitants. Saw the battles between Union and Confederate soldiers, saw our farmers head off to two world wars, cut in half maybe by lightning, or snapped in half by a passing tornado. may have had a swing or two for young ones to enjoy summer days. The trees trunk has survived with the massive side branches giving proof of life. This tree may be a testament to the power of nature. This tree is a history book if only it could talk.

Hi Jimmy,the title and your words are..magic! In effect this tree has seen a lot of things during its long life,it can't talk but it's a great metaphore to think at the history of your village written in the memory of this giant. The old tree is quite magnificent and you let it spread its branches nicely from the side into the centre of the picture against a light background. The vignette underscores the graphic effect of the silhouettes of branches and twigs. You processed the photo well, in an artistic way.

That is certainly a photogenic tree. Such a thick trunk and branches spreading in all directions. I think it looks best in winter time without leafs. Soft background and light radiating from the centre look good.

A great photo of this tree, placed well on the left hand side of the composition. The branches stand out very sharp and clear from the background, which itself is nicely blurred.

Nice photo! Seems to me like it was made through a slightly stained glass. There is a slight noise which however contributes very well to the overall picture.

Fantastic graphic elements here of contrasting dark and light tones with the oof sunset being the icing on the cake & adding a few warm tints to a predominantly b&w image. Good fg sharpness on the expressive old tree. Tfs!

hello Jimmy, so it is where you lived, Carthage, Tennessee. Splendid very old tree. It could for sure tell fascinating stories if it could talk. artistic picture. great sharpness, the thinnest twigs are well seen against the dark sky. A bit creepy.

I have always found bare tree branches to be especially beautiful, and this tree must definitely have a story to tell. Your photos are often very poetic, and this one is no exception. I like the "dark mood" surrounding the tree. Even through the gloom, we can still see a glimmer of sunlight filtering through in the distance.

fantastic tree with so nicely shaped branches. Being naked makes the effect very dramatic.
Nice shallow depth of the field enhanced the focus on the tree.
Very attractive dark mood well captured.
You are right about the history, it made me think about the oldest trees in California which have few thousands years in Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.
