Photographer's Note

Food for the birds in the winter time in Tennessee can be difficult to acquire. But this male Cardinal would stand guard over his bird feeder with his feathers all puffed out to make himself look bigger I would guess. All visitors to the feeder would be quickly ushered away by the sentinel. I loved to keep the feeders full for all the birds. So I had to have them in different areas around the house because of this bully. As they say "finders Keepers"

The bird is small, I suppose, but magnificent. It's a great photo too, with this fine colors and light and the dark grey background. But where do those shadows come from?

Hello Jimmy, Delightful close up of this red guy. He looks very serious :). You loved to keep the feeders full, douse if mean you do not live there anymore? In the hard winter, I have also the feeder in my garden and I like to observe the birds coming.

wow, what a great shot. its all about the overall visual with the strong blacks vs reds. love how the edges of the frame are so black, yet there's light striking the Cardinal. on a funny note, the birds hair looks like my haircut hahaha

Hello Jimmy, a beautiful 'portrait' of the Red Cardinal.
His expression, if birds can have one, seems to say " I am in charge here!"
The bright red plumage against the dark b/g is wonderful.
