Photographer's Note
Please click the link to see the clarity and sharpness of the tree trunks BOARDMAN TREE FARM.
Now for something very different to share in my gallery. I have been planning on posting these Autumn photos for 3 years, but just haven't been able to get around to it.
Have you ever been to a tree farm? If not, its well worth your time and effort. The photo opps are endless and often turn out beautiful.
Its a 6 hr drive one way, from my home to Boardman USA, but I did it and I'm so glad I did. I still remember getting stopped at the USA/Can border and the Officer was giving me a hard time, asking me question after question - obviously not believing my story.
I told the USA Border Security Officer I was driving down to the states to take photos at a Tree Farm. Told him its a 6 hr drive and that's why I'm here at the border at 2 am.
The Officer looked at me as If I were an alien. He didn't believe me, and really gave me a hard time. He actually said to me "You're driving 12 hrs there and back, to take photos of trees?" He wasn't very impressed.
He actually forced me to show proof. He wanted proof of this "TREE FARM", so he made me show him photos on my cell phone.
Americans in these security positions tend to be quite paranoid and hard to please. In the end he was satisfied enough to allow me into the country.
I'll post a few more in the next few days as well. For some reason it won't allow me to add Boardman as the city.

Besides the story presented in the note, I see good DOF and backlight managemnt through the trees-plantation "boulevard", Craig.
Fine symmetry from the POV taken.
Have a nice sunday,

Hello Craig,
First, while I remember it: Viviane (Porteplume) can add Boardman. Just send her a message at the Forum: Feedback/support. There is a bug preventing us from adding new locations but it doesn't stop her.
As for the photo, this is one of those where straight lines of trees make me think of a cathedral in nature. The similarities between the trees and columns are obvious. And in this case the gap of light in the distance looks like a white marble altar.
In Scandinavia these tree plantations are usually regarded as ugly and boring and of course totally unnatural. We prefer to walk in wild forests growing naturally and totally without any order, but of course the logging companies want to do their job as cheaply and efficiently as possible.
I really enjoyed the note too. 12 hours drive to take photos of trees. Ha ha!
Have a nice Sunday,
Gert

Hello Craig,
So this is your first photo from Oregon. It was well worth the long drive. The tree farm looks beautiful and the light was filtered so beautifully by the green roof high up on the silvery trees, whose details are wonderful too. It is almost as though lots of eyes are staring at us from the trees.

Hi Craig,
The length of the alley is giving depth and perspective to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the trees. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Craig ,
HAve you not enough trees in British Columbia to have to drive 12 hours to take pictures ? ;)
This is a splendid view of this forestry alley , a tunnel of great tall trunks walls and a roof of light green foliage .
Bravo

Hi Craig, your notes are interesting and very funny about your difficult and curious adventures to take autumn pics from a farm. The pic is lovely,i like a lot the perfect sharpness and the impressive symmetry. Birches cultivations are very common in my village too and it's nice to play with the lines made by the trees. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig,
You have to be careful with those border guards. The US is like the twilight zone lately! Of course driving to photograph trees in another country at 2:00Am is completely normal. Ha ha! ;-) This view resembles an impressionist painting. I like the muted colors, the long lines, and the depth. Very nice! :-)

Craig, it is obvious that it is an artificial forest because the trees are planted aligned very close to each other. The wood is probably used in paper mills or in construction. The view from a corridor shows the scale of the exploitation and creates a good depth. Fine colors, good image quality, absorbing photo note, regards.

Hello Craig,
I loved your story of crossing the border!
2 a.m. in the morning, driving to photograph a tree farm! Who would believe that! 😆😆😆
This is a very different sort of photograph for you but shows your versatility, for this is just as good as your urban shots.
The composition reminds me very much of those from Belgium or Netherland, where there are strong lines of converging trees.
I like how the greenery makes a canopy, a Gothic doorway into the distance.
Good textural details, too.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
Recently I had a lot of troubles to get on board of the plane to New York. But I never expected the Americans to be that suspicious of their northern neighbours. I'm convinced that they are a bit too crazy to be normal :)
Fortunately, American citizens are not too bad.
It's a beautiful picture of the forest with the many high similar looking trunks and with the foliage on top. Quite graphical.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Craig,
what a great photo!
But having said that I think I would not drive 6 hours one way to see that.
There are places I have driven to see quite far away in the past and I share your enthusiasm and passion to certain extent, but I suppose we have different favourite subjects. Now, quite often while having a family, when I undertake a long solo trip just for my own benefit I feel guilty that I deprive my family from my time which they have never enough. It is not that they like me so much but there is so much to do around the house, homeworks etc...
Anyway, a brilliant composition here. The perfect symmetry somehow does not fit conceptually with a forest and that is why it is surprising and so efective!

Hello Craig
A nice story of your adventure at the border with the USA. I am always happy when we passed it again without too many problems. It sometimes seems like they can arrest you any time.
From the USA to Canada always goes smoothly and friendly, but from Canada to the USA ....... brrrr.
I am curious about the following pictures of the tree farm.
This is very nice but not worth a 12-hour drive for me.
Excellent presentation !
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hello Craig,
Some border and security guards can be a pain in the neck, even within your own country. Sydney airport eg is very hostile compared to Brisbane and Melbourne. I am pleased to report I was very impressed with Vancouver international airport. Good repetition of the trees here with superb sharpness and perspective. Tfs!

Hello Craig, when you say tree farm, do you mean that the trees are grown for their wood?
Anyway, you have found a break in the trees so that the space is like an avenue, and so we look towards the light.
What might seem like a simple shot, is well considered and very effective.
Interesting notes!
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Craig
Funny story. Indeed it is quite unusual to go so far to see not the abandoded house or wreck. I do not know what is the tree farm. We have tree schools.. The trees form nice pattern. Especially the middle is interesting.

I really wanted to see more photos from this place so now I'm back from hols and looking at TE on a proper computer screen (the little smartphone ones drive me crazy...) so scrolled down and what, only one more?? You must post most images from Boardman Craig! :-)
But this one is lovely. It's less autumnal, more kind of late summer with lots of green but still the cathedral-like columns, the symmetry and the sense of perspective are amazing here. It looks like a tunnel leading towards the light in the distance.
And the story in your note... wow... I would expect adventures like this on US-Mexico border, but not Canada. What do I know... ;-)

Hello Craig,
The only tree farms i know around where we live are Christmas tree farms. I doubt I would get such beautiful scenery on them. I'll look for a real tree farm, though. Your photo is very inspiring. 👍🏻👍🏻
