Pfeiffer State Park is just 5 Miles/8 Km past Nepenthe. It is an amazing park that wends through the trees along the Big Sur River. I imagine that reservations would have to be made well in advance since it was still quite busy on a Saturday night in November. This state park is somewhat unique in that there is a lodge and restaurant. Campsites are $20. The park even has Wi-Fi access around the park store. I’d also forgotten that you can take the Monterey/Salinas Ttransit Bus here. In fact this bus goes from Monterey to Nepenthe. Here’s a link to a MST bus route map. Should you have a bike, you could ride 26 miles/42Km here from Carmel, you would be able to take your bike back on the bus; unless the rack is full. I’m posting a state Park map in the WS and here’s a link to an aerial shot. As you can see, the road cuts inland at Nepenthe and returns to the coast just before the Bixby Bridge, tomorrow’s post. Although Laurent doesn’t seem to be posting anymore, he has described the route to this park in French, a task beyond my skills.

There are two Pfeiffer State Parks, Julia Pfeiffer Burns is south of Nepenthe and does NOT allow Camping. Pfeiffer Big Sur is the one that allows camping. The Julia Park IS on the water as Phuoc’s shows.
