The lights of downtown Chicago.

Just trying out the night setting of the D70.

This photograph was taken at the 96th floor (Signature Lounge) of the John Hancock Tower in Chicago. To see this magnificent view of Chicago while having a drink, head up to the 96th floor - the drinks are cheaper than the entrance to the observation deck on the 94th floor :-).

To the left is Lake Michigan, then AON and Prudential Buildings, then the street that has the lights is Michigan Ave., then many other skyscrapers culminating to the higest of them all, the Sears Tower, tapering to Chicago's west side.

I didn't have my tripod with me so I rested the camera on a ledge.

Here's an earlier photograph of the same scene using a different camera and taken from the 94th floor observation deck of the John Hancock Tower.

Tech: cropping, cloned out a reflection, autolevels, curves and neat image.

The D70 did an outstanding job. Is the air in Chicago usually this clear?
What is the reason for the difference in color between the new (orange) and the old (white) photo? Is it the camera or just post-processing?

même si la lumière a été accentuée, cette image révèle un aspect féérique et montre comment une ville vit aussi durant la nuit. On remarque aussi combien les routes sont longues et rectilignes.

Another great one, Ken. I think I mentioned before that I adore those cityscapes at night. I like how the bright lights of the Magnificent Mile are cutting through the urban jungle, and how the lights reaching towards the horizon suggest an almost infinite scenery. Beautiful capture.
