Photographer's Note
If you ever have the opportunity and you're there; make a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. It's already breath taking to watch from the rim, but flying at 4500 feet above the Colorado river, at the same level as the ground around it is absolutely... the ultimate!!
We had a pilot with quite a good sense of humour; he pretended we would 'fall' over the edge and go all the way down, but luckily flying rigth over the river is no longer allowed (good for the peace and quiet within the GC!). It is still scary enough to 'go over the edge' and have this 4500 feet deep gap underneath. Especially when you fly right into an enormous thunder storm like we did! Although the view of the rain cloud over the canyon was quite impressive as well.
What you can also see very clearly on this photo, is the fact that the north rim is about 1000 feet higher than the south rim. Funny hey?
