Photographer's Note

Throughout history, hundreds of ships have fallen prey to the North Carolina’s coast formidable currents, fierce storms, and shifting shoals, also known as the infamous Graveyard of the Atlantic.

The building now serves as a ranger office and visitor center for Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Still a functioning U.S. Coast Guard navigational aid, the tower remains closed to the public.

Hello Andre,

Terrific capture here of this nautical beacon. The image is splendidly composed - the subject is intentionally off-centre, the shadow is captivating and the light forms a sort of halo around the structure. Because of the lighting and the position of the tower, there is almost a 3D look to this scene. Thank you also for the quick facts about this tower, always good to know the height etc, to grasp the size of the scene.

Hi Andre,
We don't have such lighthouses here, maybe therefor i like to see them in all their simplicity. It's the artistic view and the minimum on colours what makes this one to be a very good one. The long shadow in front gives it a kind of 3D effect. The sun behind the top and the blue gradient in the sky makes him really stand out...very nice.

très chouette, cette "éclipse". De plus, ça donne une ombre très sympa au sol. Le phare en lui-même est très joli (j'ai toujours aimé les phares noirs et blancs).

LOL elle me fait bien marrer cette image, tu devrais la dedicacer a Didi car la il n'aura pas besoin d'eclairer le phare, le soleil s'en charge ;-))
Bien sur la cle de l'image reside dans le placement et l'effet que tu as recherche est obtenu, mission accomplie soldat Jones !

Bonjour Andre,

Beau cadrage et belle composition. Le contre-jour est très bien géré et cela est amusant d'avoir la lumière sur le phare. Les couleurs du sol restent belles de surcroît.

Bonjour, cher André,
Le phare est l'étoile guidant les marins en mer !
Excellent cadrage pour valoriser ce phare (bravo pour avoir su tout mettre dans le cadre).
Quant à me rendre tout en haut, je vais peut-être hésiter avant de franchir les 214 marches ! ;o)
J'aime beaucoup l'effet de l'ombre déclinant depuis le phare.

Tu t'es plaçé au bonne endroit pour faire cette photographie ! le cadrage est très soigné. Une chose m'attire particulièrement ici ! C'est cette herbe d'un vert superbe ! Elle ressemblerait presque à de la moquette ! J'y poserais bien les pieds ! Cette image est très simple mais il s'en dégage une sorte de majesté dûe surement à la taille du phare !

Hi Andre,
Placing of the sun at the place of the lighthouse beacon is somehow symbolic. B&W tower against colours is a funny change for many shots where the main object is more colourful than surroundigs. The little building at the bottom is very nice too.

Excellent exposure with strong back-lighting. How did you do it? In the camera, or later? I assume you shoot RAW.

BTW: You do get around. Not too long ago, you posted a photo from Bruges. This time it's North Carolina. My wife is Belgian and we live in Raleigh, NC. Let me know the next time you expect to be in the "neighborhood"- we'll get together. (Or, maybe, we'll be traveling to Canada- I assume you live in Quebec.)

Qui a planqué le soleil? C'est incroyable qu'il reste un peu de ciel bleu avec un tel contre jour. Une performance du 5d sans doutes!

Hello Andre,
I see I have a lot of catching up to do, I have missed several of your new photos. I like this one especially for the gigantic shadow, and the simplicity of the black and white tower with the light shining behind it at the very top causing an almost halo effect. Nice off centre composition for this wonderful shot.

je trouve cette photo élégante dans sa simplicité apparente:-)
J'adore grimper sur les phares même si après j'ai un peu le tournis...
J'aime beaucoup ta composition avec cette ombre et la maisonnette, le vert bien frais, la superbe netteté, cette lumière éclatante de l'été et le ciel traité avec beaucoup de finesse. Très beau.
