Photographer's Note
Maroubra Beach is about 15 minutes drive south-east from Sydney city. It has a beautiful rock pool and cliffs that make interesting photographing.
I took this photo in January 2008 when the King Tides hit Sydney resulting in some impressive waves.

Hi Lisa.
Very impressive shot. Good composition of this dramatic scene. I like the shallow dof which emphasises the nearest rock'd details. That wave must have had incredible power and speed, judging from the shutter speed you used. I wonder if you took any shots of the waves in sharp focus.

Andrew

Hi Lisa,
Nice frame, he, he.
Great shot, the shallow depth works very well. The background looks dull and gray yet you've good shadow detail on the foreground rocks. Interesting that the mid-ground foam looks quite overexposed. Were you shooting in RAW???
Good composition with the vertical frame, balance is excellent.
Very nice work.

Hi Lisa,
Wide open aperture makes a good job emphasizing rough forms on that vertical edge. White spray on top of the waves gives good idea of wild open sea in the background.

Hi Lisa, When I first saw this I thought, well, what are we being shown here, the rocks, in which case the sea is perhaps a oo strong element, or the sea in which case it is OOF and the rocks are to strong. But thinking about it, perhaps the story is the effect of the sea on the rock, in which case it all makes sense... Perhaps that was more thought than necessary :-) cheers, Steve

Hi Lisa, Very similar to part of the movie called The Bra Boys, about surfers at Maroubra Beach. I like the split between foreground sandstone and background waves. TFS. Murray.

Hi Lisa
This is a little 'ooo' out of the ordinary shot. Normally, people will chose a fstop of over 8 to get everything in sharp focus and a steady hand, even a tripod for extra sharpness. But you! have broken the norms and rightfully so in my opinion, you've created a picture which compells the viewer to utilise their brain cells to interpret the shot which ever way that want. one can only do that when they wander off the well trodden path in photography, you've done so, congratulations.
Cheers
Kamran
