Photographer's Note

This photo may need some explanation.
I was camped by the Finke River to the west of Alice Springs, in Central Australia. The middle of winter in this area can be very cold, so I was assured of a clear sky.
The process is as follows:
Camera Nikon FM2, totally manual.
Lens Sigma 24mm.
Fuji print film.
Camera on a very sturdy tripod, a Benbo Trekker, weighted with rocks as wind can be a problem.
Lens aperture f8
Shutterlocked open.
I sat in the car with my foot on the brake pedal for several minutes.
Flashed the tree on the right and the shrubs to the left.
Went to bed, hoping no stray animal would visit in the night.
Woke up well before sunrise, closed the shutter.
The camera was covered in dew in the morning, but it is a tough old workhouse, and still works well today.
8 hour exposure.
Luckily for me I guessed where south was, and the result was this circular star trail.
