Driving through central New South Wales, this is a view of its countryside during a rainy day last Sunday.

New South Wales (abbreviated as NSW) is the most populous Australian state, estimated at 6.83 million people in 2006. Located in the south-east of the country, between Victoria to the west and Queensland to the north, has Sydney as the state capital. It was founded in 1788 and its first Governor was Captain Arthur Phillip.

The State of New South Wales has a total area of 809,444 km², the 5th of all Australian States and Territories and its highest elevation is Mount Kosciuszko at 2,228 m.

Agriculture remains an important share of the state's economy but information technology and financial services became one of the most successful industries in recent years. Coal and related products are the state's biggest export accounting for about 19% of all exports from NSW. Tourism is also a great contributor to the state gross product and employs over 8% of the workforce.
