Photographer's Note
And off they go! The Melbourne cup race has started. both on screen and in real life you can see the horses racing off. The people are cheering like crazy, because in total they yearly spend crazy amounts of money.
In the Melbourne metropolitan area, the race day is a gazetted public holiday, but around the country a majority of people watch the race on television and gamble, either through direct betting or participating in workplace cup "sweeps". As of April, 2007 the ACT also recognises Melbourne Cup Race Day as a holiday. In 2000 it was estimated that 80 percent of the adult Australian population placed a bet on the race that year.

Thats heavy duty action.Lovely piece here with great colours, a vibrant mood, great perspective and a perfect pov. You have managed the colours and lights well and have also captured the textures right. good composition.

Hi Femke
I like the double image here, & contrast between reality & illusion, with the big wide image screen at top. A good entry under the 'Event' category. Tfs!
