Photographer's Note

After a few days in Fiji you begin to realise how much Fijians love to sing. As soon as you enter the airport, people sing you a welcome song. When you enter a new island, people sing. When you leave, people sing. And when they aren't singing songs for the tourists, they are having a couple of drinks by themselves, and singing.

This photo was from one of our great nights in Fiji, while going for a late night hike we stumbled across these locals drinking beer and singing amongst themselves. As soon as they saw us, they pulled out some chairs and made us join in. Upon hearing what we considered to be a sad and emotional song, we were guessing amongst ourselves what the song could be about, perhaps a family member being killed, a seperation with a girlfriend, or even about being invaded by the English. We could only laugh when we asked them and found out the song was simply about somebody losing their Sarong.

PP: Sepia, added some noise to give some atmosphere.
