Photographer's Note
There are many emotions around this game of chess in Cathedral Square, Christchurch, NZ - there is the yawn of boredom, the concentration required for a game of chess, the laughter provoked by humour and the interest shown by passer-bys.

Hi Marlene. A little too dark for my liking, but then it's a matter of personal preferences. Excellent study of human nature- curiosity, humour, concentration,perplexity... it's all there. regards. Klaudio.

Hello Marlene,
My first reaction was that I had posted a similar photo from Sarajevo, then it struck me that your one and only photo from Sweden (taken two months after my recent uploads from Afghanistan!) showed an identical scene. This one is the nicest of them all, because of the contrasts of black and red, the yawning man and the smiles. And it's not too dark for me.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Marlene,
I appreciate your observation! the photo has a very good composition.
Indeed, we can see different emotions at the same time, in this situation... which shows us a philosophic question: the same thing (or situation), by mysterious power, is boredom for some people, joy for someone else, hard brain work for others... and so many more!
It's not the object that changes, it's our mind that changes us :)
Warm greetings from Moscow,
Elena
PS
"volcanic" rain in Moscow today! :( no sunshine...

An interesting scene Marlene with that mix of emotions, the framing by the over hanging branches and a glimpse of one of Christchurch's interesting old buildings behind.
cheers

Hi Marlene,
An amusing street scene with attractive black and red colours of the pieces. Interesting to read the different opinions about the "darkness". Your monitor seems to be very important here, when I choose "normal", this photo actually looks a bit dark, but when I use "day movie" this photo looks very good. But then I can hardly read the text...
Kind regards
Gunnar

Ciao Marlene,
beautifulst the colors of the pawns that contrast with the pavement, detail the attention of the players. Good week
