RAMPHASTOS TOCO, a photo from Goias, Center-West

Photographer's Note

I was in the square in front the building I showed you in the previous post when I saw some imperial palm trees and in one of them there was a toucan (Ramphastos toco), the indians named it "tucanuçu" because it is the largest one of its specie.
It likes to eat small lizards, eggs, insects and baby birds that are resting inside nests, but the main source of food are fruits.
This famous bird is native from central Brazil, but can be found in some areas at south, southeastern, in Bolivia, Paraguay and even at north, in Guyana.

Eu estava na praça que fica diante daquele prédio histórico que mostrei na foto de ontem, quando reparei que no alto de uma das palmeiras imperiais havia um tucano (Ramphastos toco) animal chamado pelos índios de tucanuçu, pois é o maior de todos os da espécie.
O tucano gosta de pequenos lagartos, insetos, ovos e filhotes de pássaro, mas a maior parte de sua alimentação vem dos frutos.
Esse pássaro tão famoso é nativo principalmente do centro do Brasil, mas pode ser encontrado em áreas do sul e sudeste, Paraguai, Bolívia e até na Guiana.

It's a fantastic bird to find in the centre of an ordinary town. It wouldn't happen here. Colours and sharpness are very good and the environment is nice.

Wow, this is such a beautiful bird!
This time you have a giant example and with so brightly colored beak.
Nice all natural background. If feels so wild I would never guess it is actually in town.
I have never seen a bird like that in a real life.
I suppose I have to put Brazil on my travel wish list.

Hello Jorge,

Coming from the U.K. I immediately looked for the glass of Guinness, balanced on the toucan's beak.
(The Guinness toucan was developed for an advertising campaign by John Gilroy in the 1930s. ... “Guinness is good for you” proclaims the text. The toucan bird was displayed balancing a tall glass of Guinness on its huge beak.)
But, this is the real thing, displaying all its delightful colours as well as its huge beak, and surrounded by natural, green foliage.

I have always found toucans very beautiful birds but have never seen one in real life...
With its large orange beak it naturally attracts everyone's attention.
This is a splendid side view with the toucan beautifully surrounded by a lot of greenery.
