Photographer's Note

Attracted by the wealth of the Minas Gerais State, the pionner João Leite Da Silva Ortiz established, in 1701, the Corral del Rey, today Belo Horizonte. In 1711, Ortiz established the Cercado Farm.

The name Corral del Rey originated due to a corral where if the cattle congregated that would go to pay the taxes to the king. At this time, the use of the man power of enslaved was very common. Its activities had been attracting other settlers, and the region was if expanding and consolidating themselves while town. Soon they had started to appear some small chucrchs and, between them, rose it dedicated chapel Ours Lady of the Good Trip.

In 1780, Corral del Rey, already a sufficiently populous town, is raised by letter conducted the clientele and to the end of century XIX he was known as Belo Horizonte, capital of the Minas Gerais State.
