Photographer's Note

Colour changing lizards use their technique for various reasons, one is to hunt as camoflage, the other, is to express a mood change. This anole Polychrus marmoratus is a neotropical tree livind reptile that will hiss and make agresive displays and colour changes to deter a predator from harming it. This agresive display may be exhibited to another one of its kind in territorial disputes. So its great that photography can help us tell these kinds of stories.

I used a zoom lens 17-85 Canon USM IS for the job and it worked great for these close ups. If you look closely to both picts, you will se one has bright background and the other a black one. While working on field conditions one cannot bring a studio with you, however a black, dark green, white and gray pieces of cloth can help you take out distracting backgrounds from your pictures. Try it you’ll like it.
