Photographer's Note

This is the classic and most familiar view of Ama Dablam, a 23,000 foot peak the towers over the trail to Everest Base Camp. The mist you see here is actually smoke coming from a yak-dung burning stove at the famous Tengboche Monastery which sits high on this ridge. Mt Everest is obscured by the big cloud in the left corner.

My first instinct was to get above the smoke and get it out of the photo. But since the cloudless sky lacked drama and the alpenglow was a bit lackluster in color, I decided to incorporate the smoke behind the trees and waited until the wind blew it evenly through the scene. Not sure it works, but I'll take whatever I can get when I'm lucky enough to see a landscape like this so far from home!

Thanks for looking.
