The red giant and Bryggen, a photo from Hordaland, South

Photographer's Note

This is a scene from the harbour of Bergen last Sunday. It definitely looked big the red giant that had docked close to the old houses at Bryggen and the picturesque hillside, and it offered strong contrast both against the houses at Bryggen and against the little boat in front of it. Sunday was a fine but cold day with temperature around -1 degree celsius.

jolie carte postale qui ne manque pas de coloration, un bateau qu'on ne peut pas rater, j'aime beaucoup ces maisons colorées typiques sur le quai.

This is an amazing scene! The huge ship dwarfs the warehouses of Bryggen. The angle of the shot is great giving the photo a sense of depth and direction. The angled lighting is great spotlighting the facades of the buildings while creating nice shadows throughout. The reflection is great adding depth and balance for the shot.

Hi Erling.
Very good composition to show off the size of the container ship against the typical Bergen buildings. Nice winter light captured, and the slight haze that goes with it, despite the cold. Good choice to use a CPL. Nice work.

those crooked houses along the left look very familiar!! love the light that is shining on them, and along the side of the large red ship.

The compressed perspective due to the tele lens makes this red giant even more impressive against the "small houses of Bryggen which looks even smaller than what they are!
This and the lovely colours and reflections makes the photo so alive and intense. I'm looking at it since many minutes and I can't keep off my eyes from it! Mesmerizing!
An excellent composition and an image with strong visual impact.

even though far from a conventional Bergen panorama this photo, with all its contrasts, reflects me the atmosphere of Bergen harbour better than any other pictures I have seen - incl. my own photos, unfortunately.

An impressive ship indeed..!
And since I don't know much about ships I find it surprising that a construction like this don't tilt over in hard weather...
The fine light makes Bryggen really stand out too!
