A Butterfly's Window, a photo from Malaga, Andalucia

Photographer's Note

Here is a photo that I took on top of a hill fort in Andalusia.The hill fort was placed among the mountains in one of the several Peublo Blanco's ,I have use the macro effect on the butterfly and have tried to place the mountains in the back to that it would fall upon a thirds line, also to work well with the butterfly.I have used Photofiltre just to sharpen and increase the colour saturation a little.

You have attained beautiful sharpness and clarity in this lovely butterfly - the colours and lighting on it are superb. The nicely out-of-focus distant hills make a fine background to the foreground detail too.

Hello Miles,

This is a very fine picture. The moderate aperture has produced good sharpness on the butterfly [swallowtail?] and allowed the distant mountains to recede into a soft blur.

The butterfly and the dry looking plant it is resting on, lie close to a vertical line of thirds. The blue of the water is subtly different from that of the sky – both colours nicely complementing the yellows of the left hand side of the picture.

The small grass head at the right hand side, although relatively small, is a very important element in the balance of the composition.
