Bryce Canyon Awakened, a photo from Utah, West

Photographer's Note

On our way to Colorado, we had to pass through many beautiful areas, Bryce Canyon, is among one of the places. It doesn’t matter how many time I have been here, seeing it every time makes me feel small and in awe with its beauty.

About 9 o’clock in the morning, the canyon is totally awakened with the sunlight beginning to hit the canyon, in this case the light is against me, but I like how the backlight illuminated al the hoodoos from the backside, giving that glow like it is translucent, and the flowers in the foreground certainly give the essence of awakening, although this is taken late in October and not the spring time. In the higher elevation, the flowers bloom after the warm summer and rain from the summer thunder storm.

A friend of mine who posts pictures at DA often complains about the people's tendency to criticize some of his pictures by noting that they are "over-exposed". He simply put: "They are as they are, natural, the way our eyes see them".

I think this picture is a good example of what he meant by that.

The colors are marvelous as well as the light on the hoodos, as you rightly put it, and the shot gives the feeling of a cold spring time.

Breath-taking Way, what a sight to behold. I love the light, and although many say one shouldn't shoot into the sun, the 'rules' of photography are not set in stone. A creative and extremely subjective and personal art form enables us to interpret a scene in our own unique way. This ticks the boxes for me. As you say the quality of the light gives the rock formations an amazing translucent look. Excellent depth and detail and in a way comforting to know that the sun rises on this majestic landscape every day! Fine work. Warm regards Rosemary

It must be fantastic to spend some more time in Bryce and to see it in different light. I can imagine that at 9 o’clock in the morning it is still quiet, without the herds of turists. Fantastic light, amazing place so marvelously presented.

Spectacular backlight shot! There is very strong 3D feeling on this, thanks to sharp edges between different layers and colours raging from bright yellows in the foreground to hazy blues on the horizon. Amazing eroded place in the wild west.

This has some awesome rock formation, a spectaular sight to experience a sunrise like this. Your pov is superb looking down the vast canyon and on and on to the far end as the the light is making those strange rock strata glows in reddish golden tones and contrast stunningly in sensational colors and shapes. What a geological miracle there. A beautiful exposure and composition, good to see the striking foreground yellow blooms amongst the colored surrounding. A fabulous scene of the canyon and its intricacies and this makes it refreshingly different. Great stuff Way, Congrats and TFS

The yellow flowers provide a catchy foreground to this stunning view. The flowers are well complemented by the red rocks just above them. In the third layer of the view we see what looks like just a normal agricultural area in the hazy distance. You must have a collection of remarkable natural wonders that few prople could match.

I like how your photo breaks the "rules" and does do in a very successful way. Like you, I like the back lighting here and the incredible illumination of the foreground which just bursts into colour. Your usbject is also wonderful, we're used to seeing inside the caves of Bryce Canyon, so the external wide view is a nice surprise.

a really great view of the Canyon early in the morning with the falling light to bring out the details and the beauty of the rocks.

The light was quite tricky, but you handled that very well...The sun was almost shining on your eyes! We see the FG very bright while the same fades towards the BG. The light on natural formations create a fine radiance & colours, which transcends the frame. Beautfully captured, this amazing place!

I like many layers of colors here. The sun is directly on you, yet the image is beautiful with perfect light. g This is a breathtaking image showing these fairy chimneys which rise so high. Nice texture and formation of rocks.The yellow flowers in the foreground contrast well against the red rocks.

One of my favorite National Parks in the United States.
