Chiesa di San Giovenale – Cecalocco - TernirnrnSi innalza isolata su un colle in prossimità di Cecalocco, lungo l’antico percorso che saliva dalla Flaminia. Le caratteristiche dell’edificio fanno supporre che sia stato costruito intorno alla fine del XII e l’inizio del XIII secolo, forse edificata sulle rovine di una ancora più antica torre di avvistamento.rnPrima unita alla parrocchia Sant’Adriano di Battiferro, a partire del XVII pur provvedendo alla cura di entrambi gli agglomerati, è collegata alla villa di Cecalocco.rnLa prime notizie della chiesa risalgono al secolo XIII.rnAl secolo XIV risalgono gli ambienti, oggi allo stato di rudere, aderenti alla parete destra della chiesa. L’originaria destinazione di questi locali non è certa.rnIl culto di San Giovenale risulta legato di frequente a stanziamenti di tipo monastico.rnNel caso dell’edificio in questione, tuttavia, la posizione isolata non basta a sostenere l’ipotesi di una presenza eremitica. La datazione delle strutture e l’esistenza all’interno della chiesa dell’immagine di San Francesco, fanno supporre piuttosto ad un utilizzo di tipo conventuale del complesso.rnAl interno vi sono due altari della fine del settecento, uno dedicato a sant’Antonio da Padova e l’altro alla vergine del Monte Carmelo, quest’ultimo governato da una confraternita dal medesimo titolo. Il pavimento era in parte in lastre di pietra ed in parte in mattonato, la sacrestia era ben messa ed arredata, il parroco risiedeva nella adiacente chiesa parrocchiale composta di nove stanze con due stalle per il bestiame ed una stalla al piano inferiore. Dall’altro lato della chiesa si trovava una sacrestia ed un’altra stanza e sotto una cantina, una cisterna e 12 canale per pestare l’uva.rnPurtroppo orami la chiesa di San Giovenale è del tutto abbandonata, ridotta quasi un rudere. Depredata diverse volte, ora è chiusa e non è possibile entrare, anche perché il tetto è pericolante. Le navate laterali sono quasi del tutto crollate. Le uniche cose rimaste sono la facciata e l'abside, che ancora riescono a reggere, ma se nessuno se ne prende cura non sarà per molto.r

Une très belle église de pierres à l'ancienne. Beau point de vue qui donne de l'ampleur au clocher sans cloche.J'aime beaucoup les textures sous cette lumière.

this is certainly a place i'd love to see in person, the way you describe it, it totally fits the abandoned architecture style. love the stone, love the textures and sharpness you display of it. and it also seems so along out here.

Non avevo mai visto un campanile come questo, un mix tra campanile e torre campanaria, strano e originale.

Ciao Silvio, As I understand this old church and tower did not suffer in the last earthquakes, but it is the time the destroying factor. It is so simple but beautiful, what a pity no one cares for it.

In these days of hard, financial constraints, it is difficult to find money for the repair and restoration of old buildings and, yet, these are the heritage and the story that later generations should value!

It's a fine photograph, showing the details of the stone and the original design.
Presumably the two high windows contained bells. I have seen similar constructions in France.

It is sad to see houses of worship go to ruins, but it is an inevitable phenomenon as populations shift. You managed to take a photo that emphasizes this old building's glory, I love the POV and the textures.
