This man made lake was constructed during the landscaping for the Dare Valley Country Park in 1973. It is the first such park to be opened on reclaimed coal mining sites in the UK. The Bwllfa Colliery opened in 1856 with the Nant Melyn mine and Powell's Pit opening soon afterwards.

Hi Gerwyn,

Very attractive colours here, in the sky and in the watery reflections. Well exposed and composed. It's hard to believe that this was once a desolate coal mining site - the landscaping has worked very well.
