Photographer's Note
‘Ohrid - Two very different styles’
The photo shows a part of the Church of the Holy Mother of God Peribleptos. This church is located quite close to the Roman amphitheatre.
In the WS another photo shows a better view of the church but I chose this picture as my main photo because here you also see a street lamp in the shape of a house in the traditional building style of Ohrid.
I liked the combination of the two different styles.
All the street lamps in the old town have this shape.
Some may find it banal, but I found it charming.
One of the oldest churches in Ohrid is the Church of the Holy Mother of God Peribleptos.
It was built in 1295 and based on the Byzantine domed churches.
The frescoes in its interior also date from the 13th century.
Due to improper roof conservation the church has become damp inside. Rising damp and salts leeching out of the walls have severely affected the frescoes.

Hello Paul,
The elegant lamp-post is a nice added element to the mmonastery picture.
New red roof-tiles mounted upon the old edifice, altogether they gave contrast to the blue sky aloft.
Have a nice sunday,
Ike

Hello Paul,
I was there too. Good series of photos. I also noticed these beautiful lamps and I have them on many of my photos. Charming composition. After seeing your photos, I look at my archive. Maybe I will post something too.
Have a nice Sunday

Hello Paul,
I recognize this church and the location but I don't think I was inside. The exterior is very beautiful and looks well maintained (or restored), but your description of the interior doesn't sound so nice. The other photos show that it's a fine church from every angle. But I looked at all my photos from Ohrid and didn't find any lamp designed like the ones you show. Every lamp seen in my photos is very ordinary and uninteresting.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Paul, the style is very charming indeed. Now they have redone the roof but by now the damage to the frescoes has been done, a real shame. Two beautiful perspectives for this church but also a useful close-up on the Ohrid lamps that are somewhat reminiscent of the Muslim architectural style. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hi Paul
Excellent series of photos from Ohrid. I can completely understand why you chose this one as the main upload as the contrast between the modern lamp (even though its shape is that of a traditional house) and the old church). I find these lamps really sweet, can't remember them from my trip in 2011 so it may be that they were added later or I'm not very observant!
Beautiful light and colours.
Best wishes
Kasia

Bonjour Paul,

Hello Paul, in this shot you manage to include the lamp and the church, an excellent presentation.
Five shots that give us a great impression of the lamps and the church, thank you.
All with excellent sharpness.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Paul
The lamp may be in the old town but it is much newer than the church. A good contrast in styles.
cheers

Hi Paul,
Lovely series of photos presenting both the charming Byzantine church and the unique style of the local lamps.
The main upload has my favourite color of the sky with the red architecture going so well with it. and there are some splashes of green color as well.
Very well seen and captured,
M

Hello Paul,
Another fine series of photographs; you seem over-generous with the number and quality that you show us.
I remember you using f/g lamps in your photographs from Belgium (I think). I like objects to anchor the f/g and this is a particularly interesting lamp to use for this purpose; it sort of points the way to the church, which has a very ornately attractive exterior. I wonder if anyone will be responsible for renovating its interior!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hallo Paul,
Een mooi contrast tussen de ronde vormen van de oude bakstenen kerk en de rechtere lijnen van de lamp. Goed gezien. De details van de baksteenarchitectuur zijn ook heel mooi en duidelijk te zien hier in het heldere licht.

Hello Paul,
This is a shot of real genius ... in connection with the title :-)
I think this is one of Macedonia's medieval wonders and well preserved old church.
The restoration was done in perfection. The red-tiled roof matching to the beautiful stonework.
Where else the street lamp adds to the distinctive style of this place. I just love the WS3. Could be my favourite and the clouds are sensational.
Yeah, I could see the damp you mentioned ... clearly seen in the WS2. The church wall ... due to constant in the shade and wet , I guess.
Again ,I do enjoyed looking all the photos in WS. I think you're the only one who gives us so much pleasure.
A big THANK YOU!
