Kussharo Lake Swans #2, a photo from Hokkaido, Hokkaido

Photographer's Note

In this shot you can see the effect the hot spring's warmth has on what would normally be a frozen lake. This and the food thrown to the swans by tourists is why this flock come to Kussharo Lake each year instead of heading further south to warmer climes as they usually would.

A great assembly of swans Martin....the photo evokes ethereal qualities with the fog caused by the hot springs.
I wish we had more swans and fewer geese around our neck of the woods:-)

I'm an artist who does photography but I like this piece for the push/pull of the ice and fog. From an artist's viewpoint I'd crop it to lose the bird in the upper corner as it's an eye stopper. I think this crop would more effectively place the two swans into the 'golden spot' which is where the thirds intersect...a place the eye is drawn to naturally.

It's realy an amazing effect Martin,

It's one with a great dof too. I think it was perfect wen the sharpness in the front was better. But even I like the result so it now is. You did a great job here, weldone, very good job.

Très poétique ce cliché de cygnes dans la brume. Les teintes rendent très bien l'impressiont de froid. Bien vu !

Even if I may have liked a lesser tight cropping of the up part of the picture, the result is enchanting the eyes...

Lovely sight Martin. I love the smokes rises from the hot spring's water. I would prefer the picture a bit brighter. If I also have my way, I will kick that darn swan standing in the middle in the lake, he's blocking the flow of my vision :D.
