Photographer's Note

PONTE VASCO DA GAMA.

Many other TE members have written good and nice things about this bridge. So, there is no point in repeating it.

I took this photo last January, at around 1pm on a sunny winter day. As I did not use any filter on my Sony DSC-V3, the original photo came out quite light in colours. Playing a little bit with it on Photoshop, I did realize that by the way of saturating the colours I could make the bridge (and the tower) to stand out over the background. Also, ran it through Neat Image to remove some noise, which was added with the saturation process.

All comments, in particular the harsh ones, are welcome. I am here to learn.

PS: The title is from a song by Adriano Correia de Oliveira.

Were you standing in a boat? Because I don't remember nearby any point with such an excellent POV over bridge!
Suprisingly, the ropes are very clear and well-details, but the tower at the right (forgot the name) is blurred....

Sorry to disappoint you Antonio, but I'm afraid I don't have any harsh comments for you today; I think this is a great photograph.
I don't know if it was possible, but maybe moving to the right to give a bit more separation between the tower and the left pylon of the bridge would have improved the composition slightly, but I don't have much of a problem with the compo as it is. I think its very good.
I like the saturated blue of the sky and water, it makes the image almost look like it was taken on Velvia slide film (my favourite by the way).

Bom dia Antonio, a striking capture of the VdG tower and the bridge. Due to your pp-ing there's a nice contrast a richly saturated colours to be enjoyed. The chill that must have been in the air is present here. The pano format is good choice. Very nice.

Olá António, a imagem está espectacular e não estou a ver que críticas "ferozes" é que poderiam ser feitas aqui. As cores estão excelentes e a composição é muito bonita - o jogo gráfico da torre com a ponte está muito agradável, incluindo o teleférico. Fui dar uma volta às fotos de Lisboa e não se encontram assim tantas desta ponte - tive de ir até à página 14, sendo que a última, é de abril, do Luís. Eu confesso que sou preguiçoso com a procura de notas informativas e não devia estar a falar, mas para mim é a única coisa que tenho a apontar aqui, não só da ponte, como da torre.

A composição está 5 estreals com a ponte ao fundo e a Torre vasco da Gama à esquerda.
As cores saturadas também estão excelentes.
Não sei porque temias os comentários nesta foto...é impossível não se gostar.

Queres saber uma das coisas em que melhoraste muito: composição. As tuas últimas fotos mostram um domínio de composição excelente. Isso aprende-se vendo muito boa fotografia e pelos vistos tu tens estado atendo. E também aprendes depressa! :) A composição aqui é mesmo muito boa, com os vários terços devidamente preenchidos: a ponte no inferior, a torre no esquerdo. Parece por vezes que a regras dos terços é uma coisa disparatada, mas está aqui a prova que faz toda a diferença. A exposição esrá muito boa também o que resulta numas cores fortes e profundas. Está à vista António, está à vista. ;)

Acho que está uma boa composição. À primeira vista parece que a torre faz parte da ponte.
A publicidade na torre é que está lá a mais, mas isso não é culpa do fotógrafo. Sinais dos tempos. Até nos símbolos nacionais põem publicidade...

É possível, mas gosto muitíssimo mais da outra. Sem qualquer dúvida.

Olá Antonio,
buen encuadre que nos permite apreciar esta bella obra de ingeniería. El puente ofrece un grafismo y una geometría muy agradables, con sus dos pilares del vano central con los tirantes, en un limpio color blanco, destacando con elegancia contra las gamas de azules del cielo y del Tajo. La torre a la izquierda y la ciudad que aparece al fondo, por debajo del puente, añaden más calidad a la imagen.

Hi Antonio!
For me the quality of your image is perfect.The composition is nice too,with the tower at the left side and the bridge dividing the photo into two parts.2/3 above with the nice sky and 1/3 below with the sea,city and mountans.The tower and the bridge have nice lines and diagonal and contrast good with the blue of sea and sky.

Como dizes, há muitas fotos e respectivas notas de Lisboa e da ponte. No entanto, gostei muito de ler esta nota e ver esta foto. Penso que o tratamento no PS resultou muito bem, gosto dos tons azuis mais fortes que realçam muito bem o branco da arquitectura. Um bom trabalho!

This photo leaded out at me from he thumnails and I was even more impressed when I opened it. The color and detail is amazing. It's really difficult to get such fine detail of the suspension wires of a bridge, let alone the true silver color of the wires. My harsh comment would be only that your note assumes I know this bridge. I would have looked up other shots; however, suspect this is the best of the batch so I didn't miss anything. Your note to Ben gave interesting detail about how you obtained this stunning POV.

I like the final effect, my friend. Composition is good, those clouds happened to be in the right place at the right time - between two tops of the bridge. The tower adds some balance to the whole scene. Colours are well saturated, all in all, good job!

I liked very much your note which may help us in similar cases. The final result here was excellent colors that add more interest to an already very good composition.This is the best picture I have seen from that tower. When I was in Lisbon I did not visit this part of the city (I concentrated on Belem and Barrio Alto).
