Photographer's Note

This is Balos, one of my very favorite places in Greece, from "my" island, Crete. This is quite diferent POV and framing, the usual view from that place, shows the lagoon and Tigani, a rocky island on the left, "outside" this picture. In this one you can see the two other rocky islands of the region, Imeri Gramvoussa and Agria Gramvoussa. On the first one, you can see (I hope it's possible in this small version) a shipwreck and the remains of a Venetian Castle on the top of the rock to the left.

Two ways you can go there: You can drive until Kasteli (Kissamos) and then take a boat and go all the way around the cape. This way you can also visit the tiny island on the left part of the picture, where you can visit a Venetian Castle and a shipwreck. The other way is to drive until the next village (Kalyviani) after Kasteli and there ask which way to Balos. You take a dificult dirt road and after 8 km you reach the end of the road. You leave your car or bike there and take a rocky path of about 2km. Suddenly you 'll come up with the beautiful view. If you are planning to camp there you should take supplies with you (especially water), because the small "primitive" tavern you'll find there is too expensive.

Photographer's (in love) paradise

PS. Currently in the extraordinary island of NISYROS. Many photos to come from this beautiful island, as soon as I get back to Athens. This small country will never stop surprising me...
